Imola awaits the second round of the FIA WEC

The 6 Hours of Imola, the second leg of the FIA World Endurance Championship 2024, was presented at a press conference organised today. Antonio Fuoco, official driver of the Prancing Horse and a leading light in the world championship season with the Ferrari – AF Corse team in the number 50 499P, took part in the event, which was held at Bologna Airport’s general aviation terminal (TAG). “Imola is a special track for me, as a driver, and for Ferrari” commented the driver, who shares the car with Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen. “The 6 Hours, therefore, will not just be any race, but from an emotional perspective too, it will have some added ingredients for all of us.”

The Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari is hosting an FIA WEC race for the first time in its history. For motorsport and endurance racing fans, the event, which culminates with the race on Sunday 21 April at 1 p.m. (local time) brings back memories of the tradition of endurance racing – throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the Imola circuit hosted a number of 500- and 1,000-kilometre races. More recently, from 2013 to 2016 and in 2022, the circuit has also hosted the European Le Mans Series.

“This historic circuit is hosting a World Endurance Championship race for the first time: after a challenging start in Qatar, the whole Ferrari – AF Corse team has worked as best it can to prepare for the second act of the season.” added the driver from Calabria, who, in 2023, secured pole position at Sebring and at Le Mans. “The aim is to do our best to provide the fans with thrills, hoping that it’s a close race between the various competitors for the top positions. In the stands I’m expecting the kind of crowd you get for big occasions: it will certainly be a great spectacle, and I can’t wait to get on the track to start the weekend and embrace our fans in the Italian race.”

The Maranello-based manufacturer will compete in the Italian round of the World Endurance Championship with the two cars of the official Ferrari – AF Corse team, numbers 50 and 51, driven by, respectively, Fuoco-Molina-Nielsen and Alessandro Pier Guidi-James Calado-Antonio Giovinazzi. The privately entered AF Corse team, meanwhile, is fielding the number 83 499P with Ferrari official drivers Yifei Ye and Robert Shwartzman, with Robert Kubica.
