Finally at home!

April 6, 2010 · Posted by Fernando Alonso

Finally I'm back at home! I left on 8 March for Bahrain and was on the road until last night, for what was probably the longest journey of the season. I'm glad being back in Europe, especially because the result of this season's start if definitely positive. Despite the negative outcome of the race in Sepang it's a dream to be on the second place in the standings just two points behind the leader, who is also my teammate and that Ferrari is leading the Constructors' standings.

We had a very difficult weekend in Malaysia. It's a pity, because we had very high expectations and as far as our performance level was concerned we had the confirmation that our expectations are justified. We made a bad evaluation mistake in the qualifying and we paid for it in the race, where we also had reliability problems. Something like this can happen to anyone and we have to learn our lesson so we don't repeat certain mistakes.

I'm not worried about the reliability. I think that what provoked the engine failure was a one-off and the team told me that there is no connection to the problems Sauber had and none to the anomalies we had before we changed the engines on Sunday in Bahrain. As far as the performance is concerned, we were also competitive in Malaysia. Sepang was a track with different characteristics compared to the previous two and the F10 showed that it could adapt itself very well. We still have to improve benefiting from the tyres on the first timed lap, but the pace in the race is very good.

We now have a week of preparations for the Chinese GP ahead of us. This is a good occasion for us drivers to charge the batteries, while the team will work on some new elements, which might be brought to China, making the car faster. I think that the F10 adapts itself very well to the Shanghai circuit's characteristics and we can be optimistic. During the next races we have to try to get on the podium: being constantly amongst the top three means to be in a good position for the fight for the title.

Fernando was the driver of the day (in Sepang)in my opinion. I loved the way he characteristically refused to give in to the very end before the engine blew, even with the knowledge that other drivers (ie: Button) would have the advantage into the corner. Well done Fernando! You are a true racer! Best of luck for Shanghai!

Glad that you're back home Alonso. Get yourself a rest and chill a bit. What happened in Sepang was unfortunate. I really wanted to see my favourite team (Ferrari) and drivers (you and Massa) perform well in my home race (Sepang). Those things happen sometimes. We can only try to make it happen as least as possible and the rest is up to it. I could also hear in the race that your gearbox didnt work as it should be and I would suppose without that you could've gone even quicker still and yet you set the 2nd fastest lap of the race. I was impressed you could steer the car as if it didnt have any problems. That, I would say, a drive of a champion. As a fan, I can only hope and wish you the very best of luck for all the races ahead. Ir Alonso rápido!

Hey Fernando, enjoyed your battles in Australia and Sepang, but I prefer it to be boring like in Bahrein. :) I hope the engine problems will be fixed!

Hi Fernando.. We all are really happy to see you at Ferrari! In my opinion you are the best driver on the grid. Ive seen you last year driving the Renault and you were simply amazing pushing that car. With the problems you had in Sepang, you almost set the fastest lap and chased Button. This is unbelieveable. I have been seeing each and every lap done by the Ferrari's on the Live timing and its clear the Ferrari's have better consistency than the others in the race. I feel that you guys havent got the right moment to show your true pace yet. We just have to imporve a bit in qualifiying. Ferrari's are really kind to their Tyres. Good Luck Alonso for the upcoming races. Ive got a few friends from Asturias and they are crazy about you. Avinith from England

Hi, Fernando! This race was really disappointing, but it's great that you seem to be very positive this year. I know you will win the Championship this year, and I know you know it too so it's all ok. I'm going to see you this year in Silverstone or Spa so try to do your best in those races :) (Well, I know you always give it all... lol) Keep fighting and just try not to do any stupid little mistakes which can be very important at the end of the season. Saludos desde Asturias :)

Hi Fernando, Great race, I couldn't believed it when you told you have had a problem with your gear box all over the race. WOW!!! even with such a mess on your car you were able to fight Jenson and everybody you had ahead of you, and what's more, you managed to get one fastest lap during the race. Just a word suits you: fighter! C'mon now, you're the best and your enemies know that. Good luck for China, we'll be encouraging you from Madrid. Sara

Hi Fernando. I really expect that a normal weekend will arrive soon. A normal qualy and a normal race will show who you are, and the real difference between you and others. I know you're more than a good driver. A dry no incidents weekend will show the world who you are and what you can do in Ferrari. You're the best. You're incredible. I won't forget your fastest lap in first race, and the difference with others. Unbelievable

Hey Fernando, I watch Formula1 because of you and that too in a Ferrari..super! Good start to the year..u drove without clutch etc. in Sepang..that was magic..though it was so frustrating to see that engine smoke after you overtook Jenson. Australia was another race where you entertained us in a Ferrari...keep up the good work. I can't wait for Shanhai...I have cancelled attending my company's Qulaity seminar next weekend only to watch you in

I have just arrived in Barcelona and I can’t wait for the race weekend to start after what was quite a long break since the last Grand Prix. The most important part of this break of three weeks between Bahrain and the Spanish Grand Prix was obviously the test in Mugello. It was good to make use of this extra time, although I am not sure quite how useful it was. Don’t get me wrong, it’s always useful to test, but in order to run at Mugello, we “lost” one test before the start of ... Read all »
