At Silverstone, it’s neck and neck in both classes for the title

Maranello 08 August 2025

There are only 60 minutes to go until the end of the seventh Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli UK. After legs in Navarra (a new addition to this year’s calendar), Oulton Park, Brands Hatch and Donington Park, the series is now preparing for the final round at Silverstone, where the titles in the two classes will be decided.

In the Trofeo Pirelli, Gilbert Yates (Charles Hurst) appears to be the clear favourite with 136 points, putting him at the top of the standings. For Yates, victory, which seems likely given his 28-point lead over second-placed Pranav Vangala (HR Owen), would confirm the title he won last year, also at Silverstone in the final round. For the Charles Hurst driver, it’s been a season to remember so far, with podium finishes in every race, seven wins (and just one second place) and pole position in every qualifying session contested (as well as several fastest laps). Vangala has always climbed the podium, but he has only one victory to his name and has always had to settle for runner-up spot. Mathematically, nothing has been decided yet, and with 35 points still up for grabs in the two races at Silverstone, the challenge remains wide open.

Paul Simmerson (Graypaul Birmingham), third in the standings (starting the season in the Coppa Shell but then making the jump to the top class starting from Brands Hatch), is out of contention for the overall victory. Simmerson has 86 points, compared to 58 for John Marcar (Graypaul Birmingham) and 54 for Calum Leathem (Charles Hurst), against whom he will have to defend to consolidate his position.

The Coppa Shell is still wide open, with Mike Dewhirst (Dick Lovett Swindon) leading in the standings with 126 points, ahead of Peter Hunter (Stratstone Manchester) on 104. Dewhirst could be in for a comeback after finishing second last year. In 2025, the Dick Lovett Swindon team driver achieved five victories (the last three consecutive), as well as three second places. Hunter held his own against his opponent, finishing all races in the top three with two wins to his name. The title challenge is between these two, as third-placed Paul Rogers (HR Owen) has 62 points and will have to watch his back against Steven Dopson (Dick Lovett Swindon) on 48 points and Darren Howell (JCT600 Leeds) who is four points behind.

In the team standings, HR Owen currently leads with 158 points, ahead of Charles Hurst with 132 and Dick Lovett Swindon with 126.
