Ferrari 296 LMGT3, the story of the 2025 season
The 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship season saw Ferrari 499P triumph in the Hypercar class, but significant successes also came in the LMGT3 category, along with a runner-up spot in the championship. In its second season of competition in the world championship, the 296 LMGT3 secured a victory at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps with the crew made up of François Heriau, Simon Mann and official driver Alessio Rovera. Two third places instead went to the sister car of Thomas Flohr, Francesco Castellacci and the other official driver Davide Rigon, which finished seventh in the standings.
The numbers. Both Vista AF Corse crews climbed the podium during the season. As mentioned, the number 21 car of Heriau-Mann-Rovera opened the tally with the Spa success, followed by second place at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and then at the Fuji 6 Hours. The number 54 of Flohr-Castellacci-Rigon secured two podium finishes, at Spa-Francorchamps and in Texas. As a result, the number 21 crew finished second in the championship with a total of 109 points, while number 54 placed seventh with 54 points.
Calendar 2026. Attention now turns to the next season, which will once again feature the same eight circuits as the previous one. The opening event will be at Lusail for the Prologue on 22–23 March, followed by the 1812 KM of Qatar on the same circuit on Saturday, 28 March. The world championship will then move to Europe for the 6 Hours of Imola (19 April) and Spa-Francorchamps (9 May), before the most important event of the season, the 24 Hours of Le Mans (13–14 June). Action will then continue with the 6 Hours of São Paulo (12 July), COTA (6 September) and Fuji (27 September), before the traditional season finale with the Bahrain 8 Hours (7 November).
Alessio Rovera, 296 LMGT3 #21: “We came very close to winning the title and, without doubt, the victory at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps is the most memorable moment of this season. We bid farewell to the 296, a competitive car thanks to a great development effort, and now it’s time for the 296 LMGT3 Evo version, which represents far more than an evolution: an innovative package that we hope can bring us many significant results.”
Davide Rigon, 296 LMGT3 #54: “The best moment of the season was the Austin podium, where I took over the car in ninth place in the wet and was the first to choose slick tyres, when there was only a single dry line. That meant I found myself overtaking everyone in the final laps, a real shame about the penalty that cost us the win. The 296 LMGT3 has progressed a great deal since its debut, and this year in particular we extracted all the performance possible from the car.”
