F1 Academy – Weug and Nobels are back on track

Maranello 28 August 2025

After a break of over two months, the FI Academy is back on track at Zandvoort. On her home track, Maya is looking to get back to the top.

Maranello, 28 August 2025 –The long ten week break is over and the FI Academy is back in action at Zandvoort for the fifth of seven rounds. The Dutch track is the only one to have been on the calendar since this series’ inaugural season three years ago and it was also the scene of a group test at the end of July. The outcome of the Zandvoort session put a smile back on Maya Weug’s face as she was the only driver to get under the 1 minute and 37 seconds mark, a confidence booster after a poor showing in Montreal when the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy student was plagued with technical problems beyond her control. It was the first time this year that Weug failed to score points, putting her 37 points behind the leader.

Confidence. “We lost a lot of ground over the Montreal weekend, even though we knew we had the performance needed to do well,” commented Maya. “I’m counting a lot on Zandvoort, my home race. I know the track and the results from testing here were very positive. We will have to keep a constant watch on the weather, so as to be ready at a moment’s notice to deal with a dry or wet track, but we are ready for any eventuality. I’m looking forward to getting my race suit on again. It’s going to be a very important weekend in terms of the championship and also, I;ve really missed racing.”

Aurelia. Aurelia Nobels has also been impatient to go racing again. The Brazilian did not get the results she deserved in Montreal, although she had finished in the points in the previous round in Miami. For the 18 year old, racing in PUMA colours, the main goal is to turn the pace she has demonstrated in the past few rounds into points, something of which she is absolutely capable.

Programme. The Zandvoort action gets underway on Friday with two 40 minute free practice sessions that start at 10.10 and 17.30 CEST. The 30 minute qualifying session starts at 10.25 on Saturday followed by the first race of the weekend at 17.05, which will be run with the first rows of the grid inverted. Points for Race 1 are allocated as follows: 10 for the winner, followed by da 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, with an additional point for the driver setting the fastest lap. Race 2 is on Sunday at 10.40 and, as the main race of the weekend, full points are allocated.
