The Thrill of the Monza Challenge
The Formula 2 and Formula 3 championship are back in action this weekend at the Autodromo Nazionale. For the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy drivers, it will be a special weekend, combining thrilling racing with the unique atmosphere of the temple of the speed.
Their seasons resume at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, with the track’s unique characteristics and the passionate support of the Ferrari fans. It will be a particularly enjoyable weekend for Rafael Camara, who clinched this season’s Formula 3 title at the previous round in Budapest in what is his first and final season in the category. “It’ll be emotional to race in the final weekend of the season,” said Camara. “I expect it to be a little more relaxed compared to Budapest, where the tension was definitely felt, but I’ll still be very motivated to fight for the Teams’ Championship with Trident. It’s an important goal we want to achieve to cap off a season in which everyone has given their absolute best. It’ll also feel great to get back in the car after the summer break. I honestly can’t wait: I want to enjoy every moment to end the season on a high.”
Tuukka. For Tuukka Taponen, too, the Monza weekend will be special. The Finn was back on the podium in Hungary and will want to put on a good show in front of the Ferrari fans: “It feels a bit strange to come back after the summer break knowing it’s the last race of the season,” Tuukka said. “Monza is always special, both for its atmosphere and for the track’s characteristics. We know that qualifying can get a bit chaotic here, with everyone looking for the perfect position to start their flying lap with the benefit of a slipstream. Starting position is always important, but I believe that tyre management will be crucial this weekend, especially since we’ll be using soft tyres and temperatures are expected to be quite high.” Taponen currently sits eighth in the standings.
Formula 2. For the Formula 2 teams, the Monza round marks the start of the final stretch of the season, which ends in Abu Dhabi. Dino Beganovic is counting on these last four races to make the most of the experience gained earlier in the year: “I can’t wait for this weekend to start,” Dino admitted. “First of all, because it’s Monza, Ferrari’s home. I’m privileged to race on such a magical track with the Prancing Horse on my chest. I’ve had this honour for a few years now, and I can confirm that it’s always a special emotion to arrive here and feel the support of the fans. There’s also a strong desire to get back in the car after the summer break as it was good to have a rest, but after a few weeks you start itching for the track again. I feel ready, I’ve spent several days working closely with the team to prepare as best as possible for this weekend, and I really hope to finish with a strong result. It would be very special.”
