Weekend preview: eight Ferraris in the Japan Cup
The Sugo circuit hosts the opening leg of the Japan Cup, with eight cars from the Prancing Horse manufacturer taking part.
Japan Cup. The new season of the Japan Cup kicks off at the Sportsland Sugo circuit in the Miyagi Prefecture. From 13 to 15 June, 18 crews will be on track, with as many as eight cars from the Maranello-based manufacturer.
Among the entrants are the reigning champions in the number 98 Ferrari 296 GT3 of K-Tunes Racing, with Daisuke Yamawaki and Shinichi Takagi competing in the Pro Am class. In the same category, they will face six other challengers from the Prancing Horse brand. These include the number 66 488 GT3 Evo of CARGUY Racing, driven by Takashi Toyoda and Kazuki Ota. All the other teams will race with the latest model, the 296 GT3: the number 9 of BINGO RACING with LM corsa with Shinji Takei and Ukyo Sasahara, the number 18 of TEAM UPGARAGE with ACR with Akita and Takashi Kobayashi, the number 45 of Ponos Racing with Yorikatsu Tsujiko and Kei Cozzolino, the 296 of Hitotsuyama with Cornes Racing with Akihiro Tsuzuki and Shintaro Kawabata, and the number 555 of Maezawa Racing with Yusaku Maezawa and Naoki Yokomizo in Pro Am.
Completing the Ferrari line-up is the number 1 of Team Macchina, which is entrusting a 296 GT3 to Tadao Uematsu alongside Hirokazu Suzuki in the Am class.
Saturday’s schedule features two qualifying sessions to decide the starting grids for the two races, which will be contested on Sunday, at 10.30 a.m. and 3.15 p.m.
