In the Tyre Tracks of Legends

Words: Ben Barry

The 2025 Ferrari Tribute to Targa Florio saw 76 Prancing Horses traverse the legendary roads of Sicily over four unforgettable days. From October 16–19, owners from across the globe descended on the Mediterranean’s largest island for an intoxicating blend of driving pleasure, spectacular scenery and nostalgia for the world’s oldest and most celebrated road race.

As it does each year, the Tribute honoured Ferrari’s deep connection with the Targa Florio – one of motorsport’s most storied challenges. First held in 1906, the race is forever linked with names such as Juan Manuel Fangio, Arturo Merzario and Nino Vaccarella, each chasing immortality on the island’s punishing mountain roads.

Ferrari claimed victory at the Targa Florio on seven occasions, its scarlet cars once thundering through tiny hill villages in full-blooded prototype form before the race was finally – and inevitably – halted on safety grounds in 1977. Today, the Ferrari Tribute Targa Florio retraces those same roads at a more reflective pace.

The spectacular and challenging roads of Sicily put the participants' driving skills to the test

This year’s journey began in the vibrant heart of Palermo, where a fleet of Ferraris produced since 2001 assembled amid the city’s ornate architecture. From their five-star base, drivers prepared to follow in the tyre tracks of legends.

Over the next four days, the convoy tackled some of southern Europe’s most dramatic and demanding roads – including the twisting ascent through the Madonie mountains, the historic heartland of the Targa Florio. On the same asphalt where heroes once raced flat-out, crews faced a series of precision regularity trials that tested timing and teamwork.

This year, too, dozens of Ferrari enthusiasts couldn't resist the allure of this tribute to this legendary race

From there, the route swept west through the ancient salt pans of Trapani, the rolling vineyards of Marsala, and the sun-drenched shoreline of Alcamo Marina – a tranquil seaside counterpoint to Sicily’s rugged interior.

Each year, the Tribute remains a journey that captures the spirit of both Ferrari and Sicily: the thrill of high-performance driving, the richness of local culture, and the warmth of crowds who line the route to cheer on the visitors. The 2025 edition was no exception.
