Building excitement in Malaysia

Words: Ben Barry

LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort has officially opened the doors to Asia’s very first LEGO Ferrari ‘Build & Race’ attraction, an immersive experience that invites guests to build, test and race their very own LEGO Ferrari.

Click to watch the 1:1 scale LEGO F50 come to life, brick by brick

Entering the Ferrari Garage, fans of the Prancing Horse are greeted by a life-size tribute to one of the purest expressions of performance ever to leave Maranello: the legendary F50. Unveiled in 1995 to mark Ferrari’s 50th anniversary, and featuring a carbonfibre monocoque chassis and F1-derived V12 engine, only 349 examples of the open-air supercar were ever built, making it one of the rarest and most sought-after modern Ferraris.

The one-off LEGO tribute comprises 421,652 bricks, weighs over 1600kg (more than the real thing!) and consumed an incredible 1306 hours of build time. Such is the realism on display that even the smallest details are faithfully recreated, including fuel-filler flap, open-gate manual shifter and working headlights. Guests can even open the door and climb inside the two-seat cockpit.

Areas inside the LEGO Ferrari 'Build & Race' attraction include the Build Zone, Test Zone and Virtual Race Zone – inspiring budding engineers, future drivers and young 'tifosi'

After taking inspiration from the 1:1 LEGO F50, visitors are invited into the ‘Build & Race’ experience to become engineers for the day. Activities begin in the Build Zone, where young 'tifosi' can design and assemble their very own LEGO Ferrari race car, before moving to the Test Zone to fine-tune their creations.

Finally, guests can put their engineering to the test in the Virtual Race Zone, where each model is digitally scanned and raced on a virtual version of the Fiorano test track. There’s even a chance to celebrate on the podium with a LEGO trophy and garland.

All ages can test and race their LEGO Ferrari builds against fellow LEGOLAND Malaysia visitors

The Build & Race concept has already proved successful in California, Denmark, the UK and Florida, and its arrival in Malaysia extends the experience to families and future fans in Asia.

‘We are thrilled to bring this Asia-first attraction to Malaysia,’ said C.S Lim, Vice President of LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort. ‘We are creating an extraordinary experience that will ignite imaginations and bring families closer together.’
