Giovanni Soldini is an experienced Italian ocean sailor, known for his solo round-the-world races, record-setting voyages, and commitment to innovation and sustainability in sailing.

Giovanni Soldini was born in Milan, Italy, on 16 May 1966. An ocean navigator and pioneer in the development of innovative racing yacht technology and configurations, he has over thirty years of solo and crewed ocean racing experience.
His record includes six Québec–Saint Malo races (one victory in the monohull category), six OSTARs (two wins in the 50’ and 40’ classes), three Transat Jacques Vabre races (one victory in the 40’ class), four Rolex Middle Sea Races, and over 40 transoceanic crossings. He has also participated in two solo round-the-world stage races: in 1994/95 he finished second in the B.O.C. Challenge, and in 1998/99 he won the Around Alone race aboard Fila. During the third leg of the latter, he rescued French sailor Isabelle Autissier, whose boat had capsized in the South Pacific at 60° south.

OCEAN MASTER AT THE HELM

Soldini also holds historic records, including the Gold Route from New York to San Francisco in 2013 (13,225 miles in 47 days, 42 minutes and 29 seconds), and the still unbeaten Cape2Rio course record set in 2014, both aboard Maserati VOR 70. Other feats include the 2018 Hong Kong–London route record (15,083 miles in 36 days, 2 hours, 37 minutes and 12 seconds), the English Channel record, and the original Fastnet course record – all set aboard Maserati Multi70, the first flying ocean-going trimaran.
Soldini has always been a passionate advocate of the marine environment, and is at the forefront of its preservation. In 2022, he converted Maserati Multi70 into the first full-electric racing boat and collected valuable data for the scientific community as part of UNESCO’s Ocean Decade.
Since 2024, he has been Team Principal of Ferrari’s new and cutting-edge sporting project, Ferrari Hypersail.

GIOVANNI SOLDINI

Marco Guglielmo Ribigini is Team Leader of Ferrari Hypersail. A mechanical engineer with a long career at Ferrari, he has led the development of iconic models and now brings his automotive innovation expertise to the world of high-performance sailing.

Marco Guglielmo Ribigini was born in Marsciano, Perugia, Italy on 10 August 1980. Driven by a deep passion for engines and the worlds of two- and four-wheeled vehicles, he began his career at Ferrari in 2006 after graduating in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Perugia.
Initially involved in reliability testing on models such as the F430 and 430 Scuderia, he began to take on roles of increasing responsibility in the technical development of other iconic vehicles such as the 458 Italia, 458 Speciale and 488 GTB, overseeing their development and coordinating their production launch.

EXCELLENCE FROM TRACK TO OCEAN

From 2015 to 2022, he served as Vehicle Innovation Performance Manager, contributing to the introduction of new technologies and the evolution of Ferrari’s sports car range.
In 2022, Marco was appointed Ferrari Hypersail Team Leader, taking technical responsibility for the entire project. He works in close collaboration with Team Principal Giovanni Soldini, Chief Technology Officer Matteo Lanzavecchia, and naval architect Guillaume Verdier, drawing on his two decades of automotive experience to coordinate the development teams and foster technological transfer into the Hypersail division.
An avid ocean enthusiast, Marco is a keen windsurfer and combines his love of speed, technology and team spirit in this pioneering new Ferrari project.

MARCO GUGLIELMO RIBIGINI

A mechanical engineer with long-standing experience at Ferrari, he leads sports car engineering and, since 2022, has served as CTO of Ferrari Hypersail, promoting the integration between high-performance automotive and innovative sailing.

Born in Varese, Italy in 1970, Matteo Lanzavecchia is a mechanical engineer with more than 25 years’ experience in the automotive sector. A graduate in Mechanical Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano, Matteo began his career at Alfa Romeo in the field of Vehicle Dynamics, later working with both Aston Martin and the US-based CART team Newman-Haas. He also gained significant experience in endurance racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
In 2003, he joined Ferrari Sports Cars as a vehicle development engineer, initially working on the F430 (the first car to be fitted with both an electronic differential and the iconic Manettino for vehicle dynamics control). In 2006, he became Head of Vehicle Dynamics and Control Systems, and in 2009 continued his professional growth at Ferrari as Head of Vehicle Testing &amp; Development and Vehicle Performance.

EXCELLENCE, SYNERGY, INNOVATION

Since 2014, he has held the position of Head of Sports Cars Vehicle Engineering (and, since 2023, also Deputy Chief R&amp;D Officer), with primary responsibility for leading the technical definition of the product. He oversees vehicle performance through the integration of key systems throughout the entire development cycle from the initial concept and architecture phases through to final model validation.&nbsp;
Matteo has made a strategic and significant contribution to the development of every Ferrari model produced from 2006 to the present day: from the 458 Italia to the SF90 Stradale, the F12 to the 12 Cilindri, the FF to the Purosangue, the California to the Roma, and from LaFerrari to the F80.&nbsp;
In 2022, while continuing to lead the Vehicle Engineering division, Matteo’s innovative vision led to him being appointed Ferrari Hypersail CTO. His main responsibility in this role is to ensure a continuous exchange of know-how between the two worlds: Sports Cars and Hypersail.
With a passion for engineering and performance, Matteo combines technical rigour with creativity, and contributes, through his overarching vision, to the evolution of the Ferrari range and to the growth of the team members he leads. These qualities are essential for tackling Ferrari’s new challenge in high-performance sailing.
