499Ps on the track at Sakhir
The Bahrain International Circuit today hosted the opening day of on-track activity for the final round of the FIA WEC 2025, which will culminate in the eight-hour race scheduled to start on Saturday, 8 November at 2 p.m. (local time).
The first two free practice sessions allowed the number 50 and 51 499P cars of the official Ferrari – AF Corse team to gather data and work on fine-tuning the cars. Valuable work was also completed by the number 83 crew fielded by the private AF Corse team.
Free Practice 1. The 90-minute session took place in dry conditions and high temperatures, reaching 41°C in the air and 30.7°C on the asphalt. The fastest 499P was number 83, entrusted to official Ferrari driver Yifei Ye, together with Robert Kubica and Phil Hanson, second with a best lap time of 1’51”152, +1”455 behind the session leaders. At the chequered flag, the Ferrari in Giallo Modena livery had completed 41 laps.
The red-liveried 499P cars recorded the fifth-best time with the number 51 crew of Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi (best lap of 1’51”741), and the ninth with their teammates Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen (1’52”199); the two crews completed 34 and 41 laps respectively.
Free Practice 2. The second session, held in the afternoon in cooler conditions, with air and track temperatures dropping to 26°C and 28°C respectively, saw the three Ferrari cars continue their scheduled programme. The number 51 crew, with a best lap time of 1’49”465, finished sixth, 0”685 off the session leaders; the number 50 499P placed 14th (1’49”999) and the number 83 17th (1’50”462). The cars from the Maranello manufacturer completed 43, 40 and 40 laps respectively.
The schedule. On Friday, 7 November, Free Practice 3 will take place at the Sakhir circuit from 12 noon to 1 p.m., followed by Qualifying (from 4.40 p.m.) and the Hyperpole (from 5 p.m.), which will determine the starting grid for the Bahrain 8 Hours, due to get underway on Saturday, 8 November at 2 p.m. (local time).
