Simone Resta was born in Imola on 14 September 1970 and has always been a fan of Scuderia Ferrari
He qualified in Mechanical Engineering at Bologna University and started work running a Design Office for a company. In 1998, Simone was taken on by Minardi and joined its Research and Development department. He spent three years with the Faenza-based team and in 2001 joined Ferrari working in the Design Office. A year later he was made Head of Suspension and Mechanical Systems Design, a role he continued in until 2006, when he was made Head of R&D and Innovation.
In 2012, he worked reporting directly to the chief designer, a role which he himself took on from 2014 until July 2018, when he decided to leave the Scuderia to take up the role of Technical Director for Alfa Romeo Racing – Sauber Motorsport.
However the call to come home to Ferrari was too strong and so he returned to the company at the end of 2019, briefly working on road cars where he was responsible for the technology transfer from Formula 1, before returning to the Scuderia as Head of Chassis Area, reporting directly to Team Principal, Mattia Binotto.
In his free time, he is a keen cyclist, going for long rides and walks in the hills of the Emilia region followed by his faithful dog. He also enjoys gardening with his wife and two children. He’s a big Juventus fan.
