Looking to move on from Spa
After a difficult time in Spa-Francorchamps due to various problems, Dino Beganovic will be able to put it behind immediately at the Hungaroring.
Dino Beganovic had a difficult time of it in Spa-Francorchamps last weekend, affected by a technical problem right from the start. However, the Swedish Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy student did well in the Feature Race, having started from 13th on the grid. “The race started in heavy rain and right from the first few metres I had a good feeling and was able to run at a strong pace in the early stages,” explained Dino.
Performance drop. On lap 10, Dino pitted to change tyres but after setting the fastest lap of the race, which was never bettered, his pace dropped. “It was frustrating, because after a few laps I lost performance and was no longer able to move up the field,” he said. “It was demoralising to go from a car that was very quick to one that was definitely slower. It might have been down to the second set of tyres, but I’m not sure.” Beganovic finished seventh, which brought his points total to 50. He is currently 11th in the standings.
Sprint Race. Beganovic finished 16th, also taking a five second penalty for exceeding track limits. “The problems started in free practice,” he explained. “As soon as I went out on track, I realised the steering wheel was not on straight and the set-up wasn’t right. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough time to fix the problem and that meant I started qualifying with no real reference. I could do no better than 13th and that affected the whole weekend.”
Budapest next. Beganovic is now in Budapest for the tenth round of the season. “The Hungaroring track has nothing in common with Spa-Francorchamps and it is therefore a completely different type of test,” commented Dino. “I really hope we can have a trouble-free weekend. I still believe in our potential and when everything is working well, I reckon we have all we need to get good results. I just want a weekend without any surprises.”
