Renmans and Ryndziewicz win Race-2 at Spa. Viol clinches the 2025 Trofeo Pirelli Am title
The Belgian Gilles Renmans (Francorchamps Motors Brussels) in the Trofeo Pirelli and Oscar Ryndziewicz (Kessel Racing) in the Coppa Shell won the second race of the seventh round of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Europe, which, at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, celebrated the first title of the season, awarded in the Trofeo Pirelli Am to Hendrik Viol (Scuderia Praha Racing), today second behind David Gostner (CDP – MP Racing). A second consecutive Coppa Shell Am win for Jan Sandmann (Kessel Racing), who closed the gap in the overall standings.
The seventh round of the single-marque series of the Prancing Horse, which fielded around sixty 296 Challenge cars, was contested within the Ferrari Racing Days, which also brought to the Ardennes circuit Olivier Beretta, Ferrari Ambassador Driver, and Yifei Ye, Ferrari official driver, who took on the role of Race Advisor.
Trofeo Pirelli. After his triumph earlier this season at Monza, Gilles Renmans climbed to the top step of the podium for the second time, in a race contested with an air temperature of 19° C and track temperature of 13° C, partly still damp after overnight rain. After a contact at the start that forced poleman Felix Hirsiger (Ineco – Reparto Corse RAM) and Björn Grossman (B.I. Corse – Octane126) out of the race, triggering first the entry of the Safety Car and then a red flag phase to restore the track, Jasin Ferati (Emil Frey Racing) took the lead. However, the Swiss driver was handed a drive-through penalty for an incorrect start alignment, and Renmans took first place, holding it until the chequered flag. Dylan Medler (The Collection) finished second, while Max Mugelli (CDP – Eureka Competition) took third. With today’s fourth place, Ferati – who also collected the bonus point for the fastest lap – lies 8 points behind leader Hirsiger, with the title to be awarded at the season-closing round at Mugello during the Finali Mondiali.
On the Spa circuit, it was Czech driver Hendrik Viol who celebrated the 2025 Trofeo Pirelli Am title. With today’s second place, he becomes mathematically uncatchable at the top of the overall standings. The Scuderia Praha Racing driver, on his eleventh podium finish of the season, held position off the start behind poleman David Gostner, who led the race to the line, also setting the fastest lap in the class. Third was Britain’s Andrew Morrow (Charles Hurst).
Coppa Shell. Oscar Ryndziewicz scored his second win of the season thanks to a decisive overtaking move, completed with a skilful manoeuvre against Manuela Gostner (Ineco – Reparto Corse RAM). The Italian, who started from pole position, nevertheless held onto second at the finish and the lead in the overall standings, ahead of John Dhillon (Formula Racing), yesterday’s winner, who sits 27 points behind. Ryndziewicz is now 29 points adrift and also claimed the bonus point for the fastest lap. In a close and intense 30-minute race, packed with battles and overtakes, third place went to Ernst Kirchmayr (Kessel Racing), returning to the series.
Another victory in the Coppa Shell Am for Jan Sandmann, who again started from pole position and led the race from start to finish on the rain-soaked track, which had forced a Safety Car start. With the additional point for the fastest lap in the race, Sandmann has reduced the gap to 10 points from championship leader Sven Schömer (Penske Hamburg Motorsport), who finished second today. Third place went to local driver Guy Fawe (Scuderia FMA), who, with a decisive and spectacular overtaking move on Norikazu Shibata (Formula Racing), managed to climb the championship podium for the first time this season.
Next round. The closing round of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Europe will take place during the week of the Finali Mondiali at Italy’s Mugello Circuit, from 21 to 26 October.
