Voices from the podium of race 1 at Silverstone
The Ferrari Challenge UK Trofeo Pirelli held Race 1 on the historic Silverstone circuit, the home of motorsport in the United Kingdom. Near the podium, the protagonists of the two classes, Trofeo Pirelli and Coppa Shell, commented on their performances at the wheel of the Ferrari Challenge 296.
Gilbert Yates (Charles Hurst), winner in Trofeo Pirelli
Pranav Vangala (HR Owen), second in Trofeo Pirelli: “A really good race. Silverstone is always a special place to race, being the F1 circuit in the UK. I think it was a challenging start for me. I didn't quite have the go that I wanted off the line, and spent the rest of the race trying to claw back against Gilbert Yates. The safety car gave me a helpful reset, but at the end, I just couldn't quite get him. Congrats to him on his second championship. He deserves it wholeheartedly. But I'll be fighting tomorrow as well”.
Paul Simmerson (Graypaul Birmingham), third in Trofeo Pirelli: “Hey, it was a hectic race. There's couple of new entries. Oscar Ryndziewicz and Gilbert's (Yates’s) son, Bradley. Oscar is a good driver. He's racing Europe and we were having a real good tussle. He outqualified me, but we were really neck and neck. I was pushing him really hard. When I could see him making a couple of mistakes, I managed to get a roll on him down towards Abbey and he just he went in a little bit wide, tried to hold it in and I saw him spin. All I could see was smoke in front of me, so I had to hit the brakes. B.Yates came on the inside, but then I managed to get him a bit later on and by then the safety car came out. But he put the pressure on me all the way”.
Mike Dewhirst (Dick Lovett Swindon), winner in Coppa Shell:
Paul Rogers (HR Owen), second in Coppa Shell: “Oh, that was nice! Silverstone is such an honour. I was on the last lap before I looked to the podium and knew that Jonathan Satchell was way behind me. There was no way for him to catch me. He was sitting third, and I thought, great! So nice to be that podium because it's got so much history. It was really fabulous”.
Jonathan Satchell (HR Owen), third in Coppa Shell: “It was amazing! There was a lot of mess up at the start. I got taken on the second hairpin early on, and then I was behind Huseyin Sert for a long time, but then I managed to get past him at Stowe. It just felt good. Bit of luck came my way as well. I hope everyone else is okay, because I saw that Hunter and Howell went off. Hope they're okay”.
