In Race 1 of the Coppa Shell Am, penalties do not change the podium
At the end of the Shell Am Cup race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, the race stewards handed out several penalties that changed the top 10, but without changing the podium, which saw ‘Boris Gideon’ (Autohaus Ulrich) taking the top step, accompanied by Charles Chan (Formula Racing) and Friedrich Müller (Gohm Motorsport – Engstler) in second and third respectively.
The penalties were imposed on Paolo Scudieri (SA.MO.CAR) for 20 seconds for contact and for failing to comply with the double yellow flag. The latter infringement cost Shintaru Akatsu (Ineco – Reparto Corse RAM), Henrik Kamstrup (Formula Racing), Alvaro Ramos (Santogal – Araujo Competicao), Guy Fawe (Scuderia FMA), Luis Perusquia (Rossocorsa) and Hassan Dobboussi (Formula Racing).
Pino Frascaro (Rossocorsa) received a 10-second penalty for contact, while Norikazu Shibata (Formula Racing), in addition to the double yellow flag infringement, also received penalties for track limits, overtaking outside the track limits and unsafe re-entry, for a total of 30 seconds.
In light of these penalties, which are in addition to those already imposed on Sven Schömer (Penske Sportwagen Hamburg) and Jan Sandmann (Kessel Racing), the final standings at the foot of the podium see Sandmann in fourth place, Schömer in fifth, Fawe in sixth, Akatsu in seventh, Ramos in eighth, Frascaro in ninth and Perusquia in tenth.
