Ferrari Challenge marks 33rd edition. Champions and leading figures of 2025 season
Held at the end of October at the Mugello International Circuit, the Finali Mondiali marked the conclusion of the thirty-third edition of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli. Since 1993, the Prancing Horse’s one-make series championship has brought thrills and excitement to some of the world’s most iconic circuits, thanks to the dedication of teams, dealers, drivers and clients, and the impeccable organisation of the Maranello manufacturer.
More than one hundred 296 Challenge cars – the seventh generation of the one-make series model – took to the Tuscan circuit, with drivers from every Ferrari Challenge championship: Europe and North America, the UK, Japan, and the newly launched Australasia series.
In the Trofeo Pirelli, Italian driver Vincenzo Scarpetta (Radicci Automobili) secured the 2025 world championship after mastering the wet conditions at Mugello, capping a consistently strong European campaign. In the Am class, the championship went to Dutch driver Michael Verhagen (Ferrari Warszawa). American Rey Acosta (The Collection) won the Coppa Shell title, while Jan Sandmann (Kessel Racing) prevailed in the Coppa Shell Am.
Mugello also hosted the final rounds of two international championships, with several titles decided only at the last event. In the European series, the longest-running in the Ferrari Challenge, the Trofeo Pirelli title was decided in the final race, with Switzerland’s Felix Hirsiger (Ineco Reparto Corse Ram) triumphing after a closely fought season. The same team also won the Coppa Shell with the Italian Manuela Gostner, while Sven Schömer from Germany (Penske Sportwagen Hamburg) claimed the Coppa Shell Am title. After visits to Monza, Misano, Hockenheim, Brno, Valencia, and Barcelona, the European Trofeo Pirelli Am championship was decided at the penultimate round at Spa in September, with Czech driver Hendrik Viol (Scuderia Praha Racing) completing his title charge.
The Mugello event also crowned the Ferrari Challenge North America champions. In its thirty-second season, the series visited Sonoma, Daytona, Miami, Indianapolis, Watkins Glen and Laguna Seca. In the Trofeo Pirelli, Massimo Perrina (Ferrari of Seattle) sealed the title with victory in the first of two races in Tuscany, while Brad Fauvre (Ferrari of San Francisco) triumphed in the Am. The Coppa Shell came down to the final race, where Mitchell Green (Ferrari Westlake) secured overall honours, with Michael Owens (Ferrari of Alberta) claiming the Am title.
The UK series, the longest-running of the Regional championships and now in its seventh season, once again demonstrated its strength, opening the campaign in an unconventional way at Spain’s Navarra circuit with the British series debut of the 296 Challenge. After rounds at Oulton Park, Brands Hatch, Donington Park and Silverstone, Gilbert Yates (Charles Hurst) was crowned Trofeo Pirelli champion, while Mike Dewhirst (Dick Lovett Swindon) claimed Coppa Shell honours.
The Japanese series, launched in 2023, continued to grow, with the introduction of the 296 Challenge alongside a class for 488 Challenge Evo drivers. Five rounds were held at Suzuka, Autopolis, Fuji (twice) and Okayama. With packed grids throughout the season, Sota Muto (M.Auto Italia) secured the Trofeo Pirelli title, while Motohiko Isozaki (Cornes Shiba), also active in the European series, prevailed in the Am category. Korean Phil Kim (Nicole Competizione) took the Coppa Shell title by a single point, while the Coppa Shell Am went to French driver “Alex Fox” (Yanase Fiorano Motori), a previous winner of the same European title in 2020. Yosuke Yamaki (Gran Testa Nagano) claimed the 488 Challenge Evo class title.
The Australasia series debuted in 2025 as the Ferrari Challenge’s latest Regional championship. Drivers and teams competed at Bathurst ahead of the iconic 12 Hour, followed by rounds at Phillip Island, Sydney and The Bend. Five competitive events produced the first champions in the series’ history, with Antoine Gittany (Ferrari Sydney) dominating the Trofeo Pirelli and Enzo Cheng (Ferrari Sydney) taking the Coppa Shell title. Misho Stephan (Ferrari North Shore) won the 488 Challenge Evo class championship.
With the titles secured and the 296 Challenge cars temporarily at rest, attention is already turning to the 2026 season. The thirty-fourth edition will confirm the five established series and see the debut of the new Regional Middle East championship.
