Voices from the podium of race 2 at Donington
The Ferrari Challenge UK Trofeo Pirelli held Race 2 at the historic Donington Park track. Near the podium the protagonists of the two classes, Trofeo Pirelli and Coppa Shell, commented on their performances.
Gilbert Yates (Charles Hurst), winner in Trofeo Pirelli
Pranav Vangala (HR Owen), second in Trofeo Pirelli: “I’m a little bit disappointed, I think I had a great start and was right on Gilbert’s (Yates) tail until the safety car – glad everyone is ok after that. Then through the race I was able to manage the gap, until we encountered the back markers and Gilbert found a good spot to pass to Kudos to him for that. I got stuck behind someone for about 3-4 corners and didn’t find a place to pass for a while – by then the gap was pretty significant. Lessons learnt and onto the next one!”.
Fedor Samorukov (HR Owen), third in Trofeo Pirelli: “It was good! Weather was nice and everything was fine. It was clean race, not a lot of crashes so it was amazing”.
Mike Dewhirst (Dick Lovett Swindon), winner in Coppa Shell:
Peter Hunter (Stratstone Manchester), second in Coppa Shell: “In this race I was much more familiar with the track and had my eye in. I was happier, and thought I had first! Came to the first corner and everyone started to punt into each other. I got slammed in the rear and did my best to keep it on track. By then, people in front of me, like Mike Dewhirst, was up the road by 5-10 secs, before the end of the first lap. So it was just a case of maintaining pace and keeping all the others behind me. I’d rather take the P2 and keep collecting those points, then save everything for Silverstone!”.
Steven Dopson (Dick Lovett Swindon), third in Coppa Shell: “It was just an amazing experience. We had a terrible qualifying, so we needed to get a good start which I did. There was an incident at the start, not sure who was involved, but managed to get through that. Paul rogers was behind me and I managed to keep him there the whole race. I made a little bit of a gap and could relax a little bit and chase Joseph Dean, so very pleased and happy”.
