Weekend preview: Ferrari chasing titles in ELMS, Le Mans Cup, GT Open and Asia

Several championships in which Ferrari is in title contention draw to a close this weekend. In the European Le Mans Series, at the 4 Hours of Portimão, the AF Corse 296 GT3, featuring official driver Lilou Wadoux, is close to victory. Three Prancing Horse cars will fight for the titles in the Le Mans Cup in Portugal, while David Tjiptobiantoro and Christian Colombo are one step away from clinching the title in the Am class of the GT World Challenge Asia, held on the Beijing street circuit, with the participation in Pro Am of Chinese driver Yifei Ye, official Ferrari driver, winner of this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans, and soon to participate in the Macau Grand Prix in November with the 296 GT3.

At the Temple of Speed in Monza, the final round of the International GT Open will be contested, with the possibility of a final triumph in the Am class. In the United States, attention turns to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which will host the closing round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge and the GT World Challenge America, with two Ferraris on the track chasing glory. Also at the legendary Brickyard, the GT America race will take place, while at Autopolis the penultimate round of the Super GT Japan will see three Maranello cars in action.

ELMS. The official drivers Lilou Wadoux, Riccardo Agostini and Custodio Toledo need just one more podium finish to mathematically clinch the 2025 title in the series, which concludes this weekend with the 4 Hours of Portimão. The number 50 Richard Mille AF Corse car, the only one to have taken two wins this season, arrives in Portugal on 66 points, 12 clear of its nearest rivals. Still in contention for the final win are the number 57 Kessel Racing 296 GT3, which will see official driver Daniel Serra joined by Japan’s Takeshi Kimura and Britain’s Ben Green, 19 points adrift; the number 55 Spirit of Race car, with Duncan Cameron, David Perel and Matthew Griffin at the steering wheel, 22 points behind the leader; and the number 86 GR Racing car with Michael Wainwright, Riccardo Pera and Tom Fleming, trailing by 43 points.
Also lining up in the Algarve will be the number 51 AF Corse car, with official driver Davide Rigon, Charles-Henry Samani and Conrad Laursen; the number 66 JMW Motorsport entry, featuring Gianmaria Bruni together with Americans Scott Noble and Jason Hart; and finally, the number 74 Kessel Racing car, with Andrew Gilbert and Fran Rudea alongside another official Prancing Horse driver, Miguel Molina.
The qualifying sessions are scheduled for Friday, 17 October at 4.15 p.m., while the race will kick off on Saturday, 18 at 3.30 p.m.

Le Mans Cup. Four Ferrari 296 GT3 cars will take part in the final round of the season at the Portimão circuit, three of which remain in serious contention for the title. The leading contenders are Eliseo Donno and Alessandro Cozzi, who top the overall standings thanks to six podium finishes from seven races contested, although without a win so far. The Italians' closest rivals will be Murat Ruhi Çuhadaroğlu and David Cleto Fumanelli, with the number 33 Kessel Racing car, winners at Barcelona and Spa-Francorchamps and looking for a third win to keep their hopes alive. Just three points behind them are their teammates at the wheel of the number 17 car, Lorenzo Ferdinando Innocenti and Andrea Belicchi.
Completing the Ferrari line-up will be the number 23 Biogas Motorsport car driven by Spaniards Josep Mayola Comadira and Marc Carol Ybarra.
GT3 qualifying will take place on Friday, 17 October at 3.50 p.m., while the race will kick off on Sunday, 18 at 10.30 a.m.

GT World Challenge Asia. Two 60-minute races on the brand-new Beijing street circuit will bring the Asian season to a close. Among the 24 crews taking the start will be three at the steering wheel of Prancing Horse 296 GT3 cars. On the verge of the Am class title are David Tjiptobiantoro and Christian Colombo in the number 75 Garage 75 car, ready to repeat their win from last year.
In the number 55 Winhere Harmony Racing car will be Ferrari official driver Yifei Ye, eager to perform well on his home circuit alongside teammate Zhang Yaqi, entered in the Pro Am class. The sister car, number 96, will instead compete in the Silver class with drivers Luo Kailuo and Deng Yi.
The two qualifying sessions will be held on Saturday, 18 October at 12.20 p.m. and 12.41 p.m., while the races will start at 4.15 p.m. on Saturday and 3.05 p.m. on Sunday respectively.

International GT Open. The Autodromo Internazionale di Monza will host the final act of the championship with a 500 km endurance race that will award the titles at stake in its twentieth season. In the overall standings, Tommaso Mosca and Carl Bennett start from third place, at the wheel of the Ferrari 296 GT3 number 51 of AF Corse. The pair, eleven points behind the leaders, have shown steady progress throughout the season and, with 30 points still up for grabs, aim to overturn the standings. Twenty-four points behind the leader are the young British drivers Tom Lebbon and Tom Emson who, at the wheel of the number 17 of Elite Motorsport, remain mathematically in contention.
The novelty at the Temple of Speed in Lombardy will be the presence of an additional Ferrari, the number 62 of AF Corse with the new Pro-Am champions of the Italian GT, Leonardo Colavita and Ibrahim Badawi, the latter being the first Egyptian driver to race in the GT Open.
In the crowded Pro-Am class, the Prancing Horse will be represented by the number 55 car of AF Corse, with Laurent De Meeus joined for the occasion by Vincent Abril.
In the Am class, meanwhile, Gino Forgione and Michele Rugolo will fight for the title in the 296 GT3 number 21 of AF Corse, after taking eight wins this season but holding only a 4-point advantage over their closest rivals.
Chasing third place in the final standings will be the number 5 of Olimp Racing, driven by Stanislaw Jedliński and Krystian Korzeniowski.
The programme features the first qualifying session on Saturday 18 at 11.35 a.m. and the second at 2.50 p.m. The race, over a distance of 500 km or a maximum of 2 hours and 55 minutes, will see the green flag on Sunday 19 at 11.45 a.m.

Super GT Japan. Three Ferrari cars that have competed throughout the GT300 class season are confirmed for the start of the seventh and penultimate round of the championship, held at Japan’s Autopolis circuit. At the wheel of the 296 GT3 number 6 of Velorex will be Yoshiaki Katayama and Roberto Merhi Muntan, while Zak O’Sullivan, Rikuto Kobayashi and Keita Sawa will take turns at the wheel of the number 9 of Carguys MKS Racing. Finally, in the number 45 of Ponos Racing, Kei Cozzolino and Takuro Shinohara will be competing.
After qualifying on Saturday 18, the 3-hour race will take place on Sunday, 19 October.

Intercontinental GT Challenge. The final round of the series, scheduled at the Indianapolis circuit, will not feature the two Ferrari cars in contention for the title, but they will nonetheless be on the hunt for their first win of the season. At the Brickyard, the Ferrari 296 GT3 number 16 of AF Corse USA, driven by Marcelo and Christian Hahn together with fellow Brazilian Allam Khodair, will compete in the Pro-Am class. In the Am class, the sister car, number 163, will be driven by Jay Schreibman, Oswaldo Negri and Conrad Grunewald.
The 8 Hours of Indianapolis will kick off on Saturday at 12.20 p.m., with qualifying on Saturday 18 from 3.35 p.m.

GT World Challenge America. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway will also host the final round of the American championship, with two Ferrari cars aiming for class wins and titles. Jay Schreibman and Oswaldo Negri, at the wheel of the number 163 of AF Corse USA together with Conrad Grunewald, are just 3.5 points behind the top of the Am class standings, while Marcelo Hahn – in the number 16 car of AF Corse USA with Christian Hahn and Allam Khodair – will try to climb from his current eighth position in the Pro-Am class.
The 8 Hours of Indianapolis will kick off on Saturday at 12.20 p.m., with qualifying on Saturday 18 from 3.35 p.m.

GT America. Drivers in the GT America series will also be competing at the Brickyard. Among them will be Rodin Younessi in the Ferrari 296 GT3 number 16 of AF Corse USA. The series’ qualifying session will take place on Friday, 17 October at 9.20 a.m., with Race-1 starting at 4.50 p.m. The second race will get underway on Sunday 19 at 12.10 p.m.
