Weekend notebook: after the Roar, six 296 GT3 Evo cars are ready for the 24 Hours of Daytona

Maranello 19 January 2026

Seven sessions over three days allowed teams to test their cars at Daytona ahead of the first major race meeting of the 2026 season – next weekend’s 24 Hours at Daytona, a round of the IMSA Championship. The event will see six Ferraris on track and mark the race debut of the 296 GT3 Evo. Several Prancing Horse official drivers feature among the crews involved, including Miguel Molina, Yifei Ye, Antonio Fuoco, Davide Rigon, James Calado, Daniel Serra, Alessio Rovera, Lilou Wadoux and new addition Tommaso Mosca.

In the United Arab Emirates, the 24 Hours of Dubai – the final event on the 24H Series Middle East Trophy calendar – ran over the weekend. Of the four Ferrari cars on track, only Dragon Racing’s number 88 made it to the finish, securing 11th place overall and climbing onto the third step of the Pro-Am podium.

IMSA. The Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo turned its first official laps this weekend around Daytona International Speedway as part of the annual ROAR test session prior to the 24 Hours of Daytona.

Across three days and seven practices sessions, teams were treated to good weather in advance of next week’s twice-around-the-clock enduro. The sunny, but cool conditions at the ROAR mimic what teams should expect for the green flag on Saturday.

GTD Pro. Two of the six 296 GT3 Evos were found in the GTD Pro class, fielded by Risi Competizione and Triarsi Competizione. Both Prancing Horses took turns in the top 10, with Davide Rigon placing as high as fourth in Saturday’s Practice 4 for Risi. Factory driver Miguel Molina posted Triarsi’s top time in Practice 1 on Friday.

Risi in the number 62 and Triarsi in the number 033 will both compete for the IMSA Endurance Cup title in 2026 beginning this weekend at Daytona.

GTD. Triarsi also had a successful showing in the weekend’s GTD ranks, finishing third on Saturday with the number 023 and driver Yifei Ye.

Fellow Ferrari outfit, Inception Racing, placed one position higher in second place that afternoon with Ollie Millroy behind the wheel. In the same number 70 racecar, Brendan Iribe topped the charts in Sunday’s final practice for Bronze-rated drivers.

AF Corse USA and Conquest Racing also ran top-10 lap times around the 3.56-mile circuit, with the former posting its best lap in the number 21 during Practice 1 at the hands of Ferrari factory driver Antonio Fuoco.

Meanwhile, Lorenzo Patrese led Conquest’s best showing in the number 34 in Practice 4.

Schedule. On-track action for the IMSA SportsCar Championship subsides until Thursday, January 22. Morning and nighttime practices are scheduled that day, with qualifying taking place in the afternoon at 14:10 ET. An additional practice is scheduled for Friday prior to the green flag on Saturday at 13:40.

The race will stream live in its entirety for international viewers on the IMSA YouTube channel, and on Peacock TV for viewers in the United States.

24H Series. A hard-fought, day-long contest brought the Middle East Trophy triple-header to a close before the championship moves on to Europe. Dragon Racing’s number 88 was the only Ferrari 296 GT3 to finish at the Dubai circuit, securing 11th place overall and third in the Pro-Am standings with Giovanni Altoé, Oscar Ryndziewicz, Khaled Al Marzouq and Ramez Azzam at the wheel.

Misfortune struck the other Maranello cars, with Dragon Racing’s remaining two entries and the Scuderia Praha Racing Ferrari – crewed by Giovanni Altoé, Oscar Ryndziewicz, Khaled Al Marzouq, Ramez Azzam and Matteo Malucelli – all forced to retire.

The number 777 Al Manar by Dragon Racing Ferrari had been running particularly strongly, taking the race lead in the fourth hour with Dustin Blattner at the wheel. However, in the early hours of the morning, a spectacular accident involving Al Faisal Al Zubair, from which he emerged unscathed, brought the car to a halt, forcing the crew, which also included Axcil Jefferies and Dennis Marschall, to retire.

The same fate befell the number 25 Into Africa by Dragon Racing Ferrari, competing in the Am class with Xollie Letlaka, Stuart White, Arnold Neveling and British drivers Jim and Glynn Geddie.
