Fifth place for 296 LMGT3 in Bahrain
The number 21 Vista AF Corse Ferrari 296 LMGT3 finished fifth in the 8 Hours of Bahrain, the final round of the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship. This result, however, was not enough to secure the drivers’ and teams’ titles. It was, nevertheless, a triumphant evening for the Prancing Horse, with Ferrari clinching both the Manufacturers’ and Drivers’ crowns in the Hypercar class thanks to the 499P crewed by Pier Guidi, Calado and Giovinazzi. François Heriau, Simon Mann and Alessio Rovera closed the season second in the LMGT3 standings, 14 points behind the leader. It was a disappointing end for the number 54 Ferrari of Thomas Flohr, Francesco Castellacci and Davide Rigon, forced to retire after contact with a Hypercar while lapping.
The two Bronze-licence drivers started the race, with François Heriau dropping a few positions off the line and settling just outside the points during his opening double stint. Thomas Flohr, in the number 54 Ferrari, moved up to fourteenth before handing over to Francesco Castellacci as part of an alternative strategy to gain ground. That paid off, bringing the car firmly back into the top ten after three hours of racing, until contact with a Hypercar – while Flohr was back at the wheel – sent it into the barriers and forced its retirement.
The number 21 crew’s already difficult championship fightback became tougher as their direct rivals climbed into the top five, while Simon Mann and Alessio Rovera pushed to bring the 296 LMGT3 back into points contention. Over the final two hours, Ferrari’s official driver mounted an impressive recovery, moving up to fifth, just behind the championship leaders, and finishing a little over 15 seconds behind the winning car.
Final standings. With this result, François Heriau, Simon Mann and Alessio Rovera finished the LMGT3 drivers’ championship in second place with 109 points. Thomas Flohr, Francesco Castellacci and Davide Rigon ended seventh overall with 54 points.
The 2025 FIA WEC season comes to an end with the traditional Rookie Test on Sunday, 9 November. The opening round of the 2026 season is on 26–29 March at Qatar’s Lusail Circuit.
Alessio Rovera, 296 LMGT3 #21: “I’m certainly sorry not to have won the title, but I’m also aware of the great work we’ve done throughout the season, both as drivers and as a team. We paid the price for the three zero-point finishes, which ultimately made the difference. We’ll try again next year.”
