Third place for 296 LMGT3 in Texas

Austin 07 September 2025

The Lone Star Le Mans, round six of the FIA World Endurance Championship held at the Circuit of The Americas in Texas, concluded with a Vista AF Corse Ferrari 296 LMGT3 on the podium. The crew of Thomas Flohr, Francesco Castellacci, and Ferrari official driver Davide Rigon, in car number 54, moved up from the seventh row with a series of passes and fast laps, crossing the line first but receiving a post-race penalty that dropped them to third. François Heriau, Simon Mann, and fellow official driver Alessio Rovera in the sister car finished just outside the points.

The race started behind the Safety Car due to severe weather, with race control displaying the red flag for over an hour because of heavy rain. At the restart, the two 296 LMGT3s worked their way from the back of the field, with the Bronze-licensed drivers delivering a strong opening stint before handing over to their Silver teammates, Castellacci and Mann. The recovery continued with a long series of overtakes in very challenging conditions.

In the final phase of the race, pros Davide Rigon and Alessio Rovera produced a series of decisive passes to climb towards the top of the standings. The number 54 even took the lead several times, including one final occasion just minutes from the finish after switching to slicks. A five-second penalty applied after the chequered flag – for contact with another car just minutes from the finish – dropped the number 54 to the third step of the podium. Meanwhile, an unscheduled stop in the closing stages denied the number 21 Ferrari a points finish, leaving it 12th at the flag.

The number 21 remains second in the world championship standings, 17 points behind the leaders, while the number 54 296 LMGT3 climbs to 46 points thanks to its second podium of the season, moving up one place to eighth.

On the same day, AF Corse secured victory in the FIA World Cup for Hypercar Teams with the number 83 499P in Giallo Modena livery – winner of the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans – which competes in the top class of the FIA WEC reserved for independent teams, finishing seventh overall.
