296 LMGT3 on seventh row at Austin
Qualifying proved challenging for the two Vista AF Corse Ferrari 296 LMGT3s at the Circuit of The Americas, venue for the sixth and third-to-last round of the FIA World Endurance Championship. Both cars were eliminated in the first segment: the number 54 of Thomas Flohr, Francesco Castellacci and official driver Davide Rigon will line up 14th, while the number 21 of François Heriau, Simon Mann and fellow official driver Alessio Rovera will start 16th.
The first session took place in damp conditions with light rain, an air temperature of 26°C and track temperature of 33°C. As per the regulations, the Bronze-licensed drivers took to the track with the circuit declared wet and rain lights mandatory on all cars. On a low-grip track, with all cars on slick tyres, Thomas Flohr in the number 54 posted a 2’18”128 to qualify 14th, 5"887 off the fastest lap. François Heriau, in the number 21, finished 16th with a best of 2'21"236, almost nine seconds off the top. Both were eliminated and therefore did not progress to the Hyperpole.
The race will kick off on Sunday, 7 September, at 1 p.m. local time and last for six hours.
