First track sessions at Fuji for the 296 LMGT3s

The Fuji Speedway today hosted the first two free practice sessions ahead of the 6 Hours of Fuji, the penultimate round of the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship. 

The two Vista AF Corse Ferrari 296 LMGT3 entries, car #21, led by Ferrari factory driver Alessio Rovera, alongside François Heriau and Simon Mann, and car #54, driven by Ferrari factory driver Davide Rigon together with Thomas Flohr and Francesco Castellacci, completed their initial laps of the weekend, gathering valuable data to prepare for the coming sessions and Sunday’s endurance showdown. 

Heading into Fuji, the #21 crew arrives in championship contention, sitting second overall in the LMGT3 standings, just 19 points behind the leader. The #54 entry is further back in the title hunt, trailing by approximately 49 points.

Free Practice 1 ran under warm conditions, with ambient temperatures starting at 29 °C and the track climbing to 44 °C by the session’s end. The #21 crew completed 37 laps and set a best time of 1’41.682, placing sixth in the LMGT3 category. Their sister car, #54, also completed 37 laps and recorded a fastest lap of 1’41.651, earning fourth in class.

Free Practice 2 took place in the afternoon under light clouds, with cooler conditions ranging from 25 °C to 35 °C. The #21 crew completed 39 laps, posting a best time of 1’41.732 to finish fifth in class. The #54 Ferrari completed 42 laps, recording a fastest lap of 1’41.976, placing tenth in the LMGT3 standings.

Saturday’s schedule will feature the third free practice session from 9:50 to 10:50 a.m., followed by qualifying at 2:20 p.m. and the LMGT3 Hyperpole at 2:40 p.m. The six-hour race is set to begin on Sunday, September 28, at 11:00 a.m. local time. At a circuit renowned for its long 1.475 km straight, demanding both top speed and precision, the two Vista AF Corse crews will look to capitalize on today’s work and deliver a strong result at one of Ferrari’s most iconic FIA WEC venues.
