Thrilling end to inaugural Ferrari Challenge Australasia season at The Bend
The maiden season of Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Australasia reached an exciting conclusion at The Bend today.
Sunday’s action decided the final title up for grabs and a dream result for a rookie to cap off a fine debut year of the championship Down Under.
Trofeo Pirelli. Antoine Gittany (Ferrari Sydney) sealed the Trofeo Pirelli title in style with a fast and focused performance from start to finish in the final race of the season.
Despite a very strong start and an early challenge from title rival Jim Pollicina (Ferrari Sydney), Gittany was able to build a gap over the course of the race and ensure championship success.
Pollicina maintained second to the flag ahead of Cameron Campbell (Ferrari Richmond), who put on a show with a strong charge behind Pollicina leading to a spin and a remarkable recovery to stay on the podium. Rod Wilson (Ferrari Richmond) showed his class with clean overtakes to improve from his starting position and finish fourth in class ahead of Mark Hudders (Ferrari Sydney).
Coppa Shell. Having already secured the Coppa Shell title in the opening race, Enzo Cheng (Ferrari Sydney) continued his superb form to add another win and cap off a dream debut season.
David Trewern (Ferrari Gold Coast) just held off the advances of Aemel Nordin (Ferrari Adelaide) by less than a second to take the runner up spot in class and second in the championship.
Japanese driver Masahiro Taguchi (Ferrari Brisbane) was unable to replicate his podium result from Saturday, finishing fourth ahead of a personal best performance from Tony Baildon (Ferrari Brisbane).
Trofeo Pirelli 488. Paul Brockbank (Barbagallo Ferrari) drove from pole position in class to take out the Trofeo Pirelli 488 class win in what was his first ever Ferrari Challenge Australasia event.
Brockbank led the way from Saturday’s winner Michel Stephan (Ferrari Sydney) and Japanese driver Baby Kei (Cornes Osaka).
