Maranello, 14 September – The American Le Mans Series is back in action this weekend for Round 8 at California’s Laguna Seca circuit, a short distance from the attractions of Monterey. Back in early August, the Risi Competizione team won at Road America, a maiden victory for the 458 Italia GT2 and now it is ready for the next challenge, looking to secure another win in the prestigious series. Laguna Seca’s Mazda Raceway is considered one of the most demanding in the world and rightly so with spectacular turns such as Andretti and the steep charge down the Corkscrew. It is a stern test of driver and car, with its eleven corners and a rise and fall of around ninety metres.
However, the difficulty of the terrain will not deter Jaime Melo, who along with Toni Vilander will share the wheel of the Risi 458 Italia GT2. The Brazilian has complete faith in the Ferrari’s potential at this track. “It’s the first time for this car at this track, but I expect it will deal with it very well because it is so stable. The secret, as usual, will be to find the right compromise in set-up to suit mine and Vilander’s driving styles, so that the car is comfortable to drive for both of us.”
The event gets underway on Friday with qualifying at 15h40 to decide the grid for the six hour race that starts at 13h30 on Saturday.
