Maranello, 26 June – Next stop on the endurance racing calendar for Ferrari is the Nurburgring 24 Hours with the Hankook Farnbacher team entering a 458 Italia GT2 car alongside around 200 cars on the long configuration of the German track, including the F1 circuit and the old north ring.
One lap of the track is 25.359 km long and no less than 700 drivers tackled the task. Best time in Thursday’s qualifying went to the crew of Dominik Farnbacher, Allan Simonsen, Marco Seefried and Jaime Melo, who lapped in 8.23.764, and that was good enough for the Ferrari as rain wiped out any chance of doing better on Friday.
The long race got underway at 16.00 yesterday and the Farnbacher Ferrari led from the start up to the fifth hour when a technical problem saw them spiral down the order, but by the end of the 24 hours they were back to eighth, a significant result for the only Maranello car entered.
Winners of the Nurburgring 24 Hours were Marc Lieb, Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas and Lucas Luhr in their Manthey Racing Porsche. It crossed the line ahead of the BMW of Jorg Muller, Augusto Farfus, Uwe Alzen and Pedro Lamy, with third place going to the Audi driven by Marc Basseng, Frank Stippler, Marcel Fassler and Andrea Piccini.
