Maranello, 28 January – Attending the launch ceremony today of the Ferrari 150° Italia, the new car with which Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro will compete in the Formula 1 World Championship, were all the drivers involved in the Maranello marque’s racing activities. Apart from the Scuderia F1 drivers and the youngsters from the Ferrari Driver Academy, also present were also those involved in GT series, who are about to embark on what will be a very special season for them, because it marks the handing over of the baton from the all-conquering F430 GTC to the new 458 Italia GT, the sports car derived from the 458 Italia with its central-rear mounted V8 engine. There are no less four iterations of the car now and in the pipeline, developed in conjunction with Michelotto Automobili: the Challenge version, launched back at the Bologna Motor Show, will be the fifth model used by Ferrari to liven up its one-make series, the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli – the GT2 car, already a veteran of several on-track development test sessions – and soon will come the brand new GT3 and Grand-Am versions. “Ferrari’s racing spirit has always sprung not just from Formula 1 but also from the road-going sports cars competing in the Grand Touring category,” commented the head of the Ferrari Corse Clienti Department, Antonello Coletta, underlining the importance of this ambitious project. “We have scored significant wins in both the Italian and European series, as well as in the United States where, in the AmeDrivers’ one the following year. This year comesrican Le Mans Series, Ferrari won the 2006 Teams’ title and the the added task of tackling the Grand-Am series, with the aim of expanding our challenges across the ocean, with a car that will make its appearance during the course of 2011.”
