Ferrari brought two world previews with an exceptional character to the 79th International Car Show in Geneva. Although the two cars are very different one from another, they both have a distinctive dynamic. They are both based on the Gran Turismo 599 GTB Fiorano, but the work carried out by the technicians from Maranello was substantial and gave life to the new HGTE for the road car, which underlines the positioning of the 12-cylinder from Maranello and the new special series, the 599XX, which will be exclusively driven on race tracks. On both cars the technicians worked on the setup, the mechanical details and the electronics.

The car sits lower and the springs and dampers are more rigid for a better dynamic performance of the 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE (Handling Gran Turismo Evoluzione) especially when entering corners. The F1 gearbox is now even faster, while the throttle control has been modified for faster reaction. The tyre’s special rubber compound offers better grip. The design and the materials used are following the technical indications, which can be seen by the wide use of carbon fibre not only for the car’s body but also in its interior, where also refined leather and black Alcantara are used. The 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE is fitted with new sport seats with the back part completely made out of carbon fibre and bi-colour leather-black Alcantara. The body of the car shown in Geneva was presented with a brand-new three-layered metallic red livery.
A completely different project with a completely different technological content never seen before on board of a car was the other great novelty at Geneva: the 599XX, a car, which will not be homologated for road use. It’s a super sports car, with the main part of its technical content from the world of motorsports, aimed at selected clients, who want to experience the emotion of driving on a race track or improving their driving capabilities, also thanks to the Corse Clienti department’s team and the advice from professional Ferrari drivers, who will follow the clients and their cars at the events in 2010/11, where the client test drivers will have the possibility to drive their FXX on different tracks.
Several modifications have been carried out as far as the 12-cylinder engine is concerned: the combustion, the aspiration, the outlet and the rotation has been improved to up to 9,000 rpm, generating 700 BHP. The gearbox software has been modified, which led to gear change times of 60 milliseconds. Furthermore the 599XX is fitted with completely new electronics, based on a system called “High Performance Dynamic Concept”, a complex of technical solutions to optimize the mechanical and the electronic parts, reaching the maximum output also during extreme operations. The sporty handling could be improved thanks to the use of second generation magnetorheological fluid suspension control, while sporty driving benefits from the so called “virtual car engineer”, monitoring efficiency and use of the car in real time, delivering, through a special device on board, the necessary information to the driver.
As far as aerodynamic is concerned the 599XX is the first car fitted with the Actiflow™ system, contributing to higher downforce, changing the car’s aerodynamic resistance and adjusting it to the conditions on the race track. Two fans in the boot are sucking air from the car’s underbody (thanks to the diffuser’s porous material), ejecting it through two grills sitting next to the tail-lights. The car’s higher performance also benefits from material such as carbon fibre and aluminium, which made the 599XX even lighter. Also the brake pads are made out of carbon fibre, which improves the performance of the carbon-ceramic brakes. The 19’’ slicks have been developed ad hoc, delivering a higher stability in corners and improving the Ferrari 599XX’s lateral acceleration. To underline the 599XX’s sporty behaviour it’s livery sports the colours of the F2008.
