FDA – Bianchi takes runner-up slot in WSR 3.5 Championship
Maranello, 21 October – The outcome of the World Series 3.5 championship was decided today at the Barcelona circuit and in the case of the Ferrari Driver Academy’s Jules Bianchi, luck was not on his side. On lap 21 of Race 2, the Frenchman and Robin Frijns, both pretenders to the crown, were fighting for fourth place and Bianchi managed to get inside Frijns on the inside of Turn 1. However, the Dutchman then counterattacked at Turn 4, pushing Jules off the track, thus putting an end to his title hopes.
The weekend had got off to a promising start, with pole position in the first qualifying session, then a seventh place in the first leg prior to that retirement in Race 2. Bianchi fought hard all season to be in the running right to the finish, with some great performances, including wins and pole positions. He thus finishes second in the championship on 185 points, ten fewer than the new champion, Frijns, who needed to finish no higher than seventh to be assured of the title.
