Japanese GP - Alonso 5th and Massa 9th in second practice

Suzuka, 5 October – Mark Webber was fastest in the second Friday session here in Suzuka, taking his Red Bull round in 1.32.493. The Australian outpaced Lewis Hamilton who was second in 1.32.707 and Sebastian Vettel in the other Red Bull (1.32.836.) Fourth was Nico Hulkenberg, the German lapping in 1.32.987 in the Force India. Fernando Alonso was fifth in his F2012 in 1.33.093, while his team-mate Felipe Massa was ninth (1.33.614.)
Both Ferrari men got through the busy programme planned for the first day of the Japanese Grand Prix, starting with an assessment of various aerodynamic configurations, especially trying different wings, before moving on to the usual Pirelli tyre comparison for the Hard and Soft compounds, with a long run on full tanks.
