Raffaele Marciello: “learning is the priority”
Raffaele Marciello confirmed he is in great form at the third round of the Formula 3 Euro Series, which was held at the Spielberg circuit. The 17 year old Ferrari Driver Academy student took his sixth win of the season with a strong showing in Race 1.
“I started from second on the grid,” commented Marciello “and immediately after the start I had a great feeling from the car. On lap 3, I took the lead and was able to control the race without any problems. Unfortunately however, during the Spielberg weekend, I did make some mistakes which cost me championship points.”
“In the second race, I started eighth but I knew I had the speed to move up the order,” continued Raffaele. “After the first part of the race in which positions were frozen by the yellow flags, I was too aggressive and I made a mistake under braking which cost me several places.”
Marciello finished Race 2 in ninth place, preparing for the third and final race of the weekend. “I was on the second row, with every chance of finishing the weekend on the podium,” he recalled. “But I stalled the engine, because I was caught out by the additional traction one gets from the 2012 tyres. That mistake robbed me of an important result. It’s a shame, but I have to benefit from these mistakes and continue on this learning curve. So far, I have never made the same mistake twice and I hope that will also apply to the errors I committed in Spielberg.”
Over the course of the Austrian weekend, Marciello picked up 30 points, confirming his lead in the FIA F3 European Championship standings, on 137 points, ahead of team-mate Daniel Juncadella who now has 115. In the Formula 3 Euro Series, Raffaele finds himself second, six points off the leader, Juncadella.
