Luca Badoer driving the F60
Valencia, 21st August 2009 - Today will definitely be remembered at Ferrari and especially by the driver, who will race a red car for the first time in his career: Luca Badoer.
The 38-year-old driver from Montebelluna started his career in 1985 with kart racing, where he became regional champion of Veneto and Italian champion in 1987 (category 100 cc). He won in Formula 3 in the years 1989 and 1990 at Vallelunga and three times in 1991. In Formula 3000 he turned into a professional driver with a win in the Intercontinental championship in 1992.
His Formula 1 career began in 1993 with the Scuderia Italia, which later became Minardi, where Luca became test driver in 1994. In the following years he also raced in the FIA GT championships and in 1998 Jean Todt called him to replace Larini as a Ferrari test driver; by then Luca had taken part in 51 Grands Prix and has been connected to the Scuderia from Maranello ever since.
Badoer has been covering an exclusive role at Ferrari since 2000, where he has been working as the official test driver, by the side of Marc Gene', for the last nine years.
The rest of his story unfolded over the last weeks when Felipe Massa's car was handed over to him, after the Brazilian driver's accident at the Hungaroring on 29 July. It is an exciting day for Luca, who hasn't participated in a F1 competition for the last ten years (his last GP was in Japan in 1999) dreaming about debuting in a Ferrari his whole life: in a couple of minutes he will be behind the F60's wheel.
