Ferrari World Abu Dhabi

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, set to open on October 27th 2010, is the world’s first Ferrari theme park and largest attraction of its kind. It will be an intense multi-sensory experience and a must-visit for enthusiasts, fans and families. The Park pays tribute to the passion, excellence, performance, technical innovation that Ferrari has established over the years and represents today. Its iconic sleek red roof is directly inspired by the classic double curve side profile of the Ferrari GT body, spanning 200,000 m2 and carrying the largest Ferrari logo ever created.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi will host a number of attractions, including rides for children of all ages, providing the complete Ferrari experience: over 20 state-of-the-art attractions, each designed to bring to life a different part of the Ferrari story, including the world’s fastest rollercoaster, travelling at speeds reaching 240 km/h and emulating the thrilling sensation of being in a Ferrari F1 singleseater, or the G-force experience taking passengers on an adrenaline-pumping ride up over 62 m, through the roof and back down again.

The Park is located on Yas Island - set to become a global tourist destination with a wide range of accommodation and entertainment facilities - on the North East side of Abu Dhabi’s mainland. Abu Dhabi, at the crossroads between Europe, Asia and Africa, was chosen as the ideal location to build the Ferrari theme park, motor sports being extremely popular in the United Arab Emirates. Ferrari World Abu Dhabi will offer a unique and intensely fun way, together with a wide variety of Italian delicacies, and of course unique shopping experiences.

The Park is owned by Aldar Properties PJSC, Abu Dhabi’s leading property development, management and investment company. Farah Leisure Parks Management L.L.C, a joint venture between Aldar Properties PJSC and ProFun Management Group Inc. (international leisure facilities management and operating company) will be responsible for managing and operating Ferrari World Abu Dhabi. Ferrari’s key principles of excellence and performance in the context of technological innovation will underpin every aspect of the project.

Architectural Overview

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi sits beneath its iconic red roof in the heart of Yas Island and is the world’s first Ferrari theme park and largest attraction of its kind. It will be an intense multi-sensory experience and a must-visit for enthusiasts, fans and families. The Park pays tribute to the passion, excellence, performance, and technical innovation that Ferrari has established over the years and represents today. To house this state of the art leisure attraction, the building had to reflect the sinuous form of a Ferrari, directly inspired by the classic double curve side profile of the Ferrari GT body.

Due to the shape of the island and the position of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi in close proximity to the airport, the building was conceived as a very simple ‘ground hugging’ form, peeling up from the landscape in flowing lines like a red sand dune. The visually distinctive form and shape crowns the Yas Marina Circuit creating a striking skyline.

Key facts:
1. The enclosed volume is over 3,000,000 cubic metres
2. The gross foot print of the plaza level is 86,000 m2
3. The total accommodation of all 3 levels is 176,000 m2
4. The building stands 50m high above sea level, with the central shot ride at a staggering 62.5 m high, the highest permissible structure on the flight path to the airport.
5. The roof structure is over 700 metres in diameter
6. The total roof area is 200,000 m2
7. The Ferrari logo on the roof, the biggest Ferrari logo ever created, measures an incredible 65 meters in length and covers an area of 3,000 m2;
8. The plot the Ferrari World Abu Dhabi building sits on is over 700,000 m2
9. The expansive 48 metre high roof is punctuated by a vast glazed crystal-like funnel measuring 100 metres in diameter at the top, pulling down to just 17 metres diameter at its base
10. The central funnel roof is supported on 12 primary columns which form a 12-point Arabic star pattern that is used to describe the primary geometry of the overall roof space and extends out to meet the primary raked shield façade.
