Bodyshell Production
Panelling is one of the first stages in the Ferrari GT car manufacturing process. It is performed in the Ferrari plant in Modena, in the panelling technology area (the former Scaglietti body plant, historical manufacturer of Ferrari shells).
This is one of the world's most advanced plants for the machining and assembly of aluminium, where the sophisticated technology of the manufacturing and control systems combines with workers' traditional manual skills, to produce the lines and shapes that have made Ferraris immediately identifiable for over half a century.
Here skill, experience and technology find expression in tooling and prototype construction. And this is where all Ferrari's bodyshells start to take shape. Body panelling, fitting and adjustment of the mobile parts (doors, bonnet and boot) and surface quality control are the three operations in which Ferrari's craftsmen excel, assisted in their work by the automation of part of the process and the use of sophisticated materials.
Quality indices and prototypes
The undisputed quality level reached is a result of both a deeply rooted control culture which is part of Ferrari workers' DNA and by continuous monitoring of the aesthetic and dimensional characteristics of the bodyshells. Each unit produced in this area is subjected to aesthetic evaluation that results in an Initial Customer Perception index (I.C.P.) which is given to all bodyshells after the review process. Sophisticated measuring machines which assign a Geometric Quality Index (I.Q.G.), record the dimensions of each part of the bodyshell, providing an additional guarantee of perfection.
