Montmelo (Barcelona), 7 May – The second session of free practice has just finished in preparation for the Spanish Grand Prix. This race, the fifth round of the Formula 1 world championship, is scheduled for Sunday at the Catalan track of Montmelo. The Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel set the fastest time (1.19.965) ahead of the sister car of his team-mate Mark Webber (1.20.175) and Michael Schumacher’s Mercedes (1.20.757). Fernando Alonso set the 4th fastest time, completing 30 laps with a best of 1.20.819. The other Ferrari of Felipe Massa ended up 8th with a time of 1.21.302 from 25 laps. There is still a lot of work to do for the team, which worked on different fuel loads in the afternoon session and carried out comparison tests on the blown rear wing. A lack of grip further complicated the session for both Ferrari drivers, just as it did in the morning session. The timesheets show that the opponents are already very competitive, starting with the Red Bulls. The third and final practice session is scheduled to take place tomorrow morning at 11am local time.
