Lying just outside Italy's capital, Vallelunga began its life as a 1.8 km sand oval in 1959. This exciting circuit has now grown to 4.085 km long and offers some of the most challenging racing in Formula 1.
The sloped first corner into the Cimini is the preferred point on the track for overtaking. Drivers arrive at this point with an open throttle, and then must immediately perform the braking manoeuvres necessary to reach the right speed for the following corner. After the Campagnano straight and a section that goes slightly uphill, the drivers reach the new part of the track, which was finished in 2006. A very exciting corner to the left brings the cars surging back on the traditional circuit, up to the famous Trincea. More excitement follows at the Tornantino, a narrow corner where the drivers often try to overtake each other before they enter the Esse and reach, after the Roma corner, the main straight.
