The Ricardo Tormo Circuit is a motorbike circuit situated outside of Valencia in Spain, named after the Spanish driver Ricardo Tormo, who died in 1998. The track was inaugurated by the King of Spain in 1999 and was immediately part of the MotoGP World Championship on the occasion of the Comunitat Valenciana GP.
The track is 4.005 km long, the longest straight measures 876 metres. Thanks to its geographic position with a mild climate in winter the track often hosts Formula 1 tests, while during the regular season, apart from MotoGP races, the track also hosts a Superbike race and races of GP2 and Gran Turismo on four wheels.
The circuit can be considered to be quite unique, as it is a proper modern European “stadium”. Built in small valley, the grandstand offers the spectators a perfect view of the whole track, which intertwines within itself, with tight corners and short straights, where low gears have to be used and the throttle is hardly opened. The track is driven anti-clockwise.
