The race track 20 km north-east from Budapest has been hosting the Hungarian GP since 1986. The circuit is a modern structure, especially built for Formula 1. Do to the hilly layout the spectators have the possibility to benefit from a natural amphitheatre. Due to the dusty tarmac and the windy layout the Hungaroring is one of the tracks where overtaking is almost impossible, although over the years several modifications have improved the competitions’ shows. The track was shortened in 1989 to 3,967 metres (from the original 4,014 metres), while in 2003 the main straight was extended by 250 metres with an “elbow” shape before the first corner, eliminating the fast downhill s-corner. Now there is a corner, taken in second gear. With the main extension on the straight also the first corner’s shape was modified, which now is almost the only point to overtake.
