Homestead-Miami Speedway is a race track situated at Homestead, in Florida, south-west of Miami. The circuit hosts different motor races such as kart and the three major national NASCAR series: Nextel Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck. Although it's a circuit of the latest generation, numerous modifications have been carried out. Today it is considered to be one of the most beautiful race tracks in the country.
The idea of building a track was born after the devastating hurricane Andrew: works started a year after the storm, in 1993. At the inauguration, on 5th November 1995, the track's original layout was a flat oval with slightly inclined straights between the corners 1 - 2 and 3 - 4. With an ambitions restructuring project, started in 1997 and completed in 2000, its shape completely changed, turning it into a full-blown oval with corners with inclinations of 6 degrees.
Today's shape of the track is due to the last modifications, carried out in 2003, when the corners' inclinations were brought to 18 degrees in the lower part and 20 degrees close to the outer wall. Since its inauguration the circuit could host up to 80,000 spectators.
