Raikkonen: “Everything can change in a second”

Maranello, 31th March 2009 - This was the first race of the championship in many years, where we haven’t gained any points, not even one. Obviously this is not the best way to start; to be honest it’s quite frustrating, but we can’t do anything about it now. We have to work to improve. Also last year things didn’t go well in Melbourne for us and then we won at Malaysia. Today, just like last year, everything can change in a second.

The whole weekend at Melbourne was very disappointing for me, it was maybe one of the worst weekends of my career. Not just didn’t we gain any points, but we didn’t even have the fastest car on the track. There are many things to do now, but I know that I can rely on a great Team working in the right direction. On Saturday morning I lost a lot of time during the free practice session, because of a problem with the car’s hydraulic system. That was a real shame. Every lap counts; these days even more, considering that we can’t have any test sessions during the season.

The best aspect of the weekend might have been the KERS; it worked really well at the start, although I couldn’t use it 100 percent, because there was not enough room. But I had a very good feeling with it. As I said before, we weren’t as competitive as we expected to be. I wasn’t surprised by the Brawn GP: we could already see during the tests how fast they are. Now they’re the favourites and we’ve got a tough competition ahead of us. Before the start of the season I said that we had to wait for a couple of races to see how things are. Now there’s Malaysia. It’s a more normal track compared to Melbourne. The championship is completely open. We’ve done just one race and even if I had preferred to start on the right foot, there are still many left. For
any predictions, we have to wait until we get back to Europe.

I’ve always liked the Sepang circuit and I’ve won there twice, the last time was last year. I like driving there. It’s very demanding, the weather conditions are tough, it’s hot like in a Finnish sauna. I don’t know how competitive we will be, because the cars have changed quite a lot compared to last year, but we’ll give it our all to win!

congratulations on the race in sepang, the team strategist manage to ruin your race one more time..., ferrari always said that they will learn from their mistake.. but clearly.. they didn't!! what the hell are they thinking?!! I'm not blaming the drivers as they already push their to their limit... but the decision that has been made in the pitwall was so poorly made... ssghh...

Dear Kimi, I'm come from China. I'm your fans and I adore you from the first time of you Joined in Mclaren. I watched the Grand prix of Malaysia today, from yesterday you had do your best but the team had arranged the wet tyre for your first stop. That's a big surprise for everyone. Every fans of yours and Ferrari's on the BBS of f1.sina.com.cn had orison when you leave the Pit, we pray the God gave a big rain soon. Although you had miss the chance to got the points in Malaysia GP, but we trust you can grow up in the CHINA GP, Hope you got the Champion in the China GP.

I think in this moment Kimi isn't very lucky. When he changed the tyres there are lots of lightnings on the track and everyone could believe in an early rain, before the others. But just 3-4 minutes after han been paid too much. It's pity for Kimi after his great start...

today in Malaysia just lack of luck... if u could have stayed at the track for few more laps then it is best for your tyre... but just... lucks...

sorry about today, but ferrari needs to work on its pitwall brains. a lot has changed since jean todt & the new guy is not on the same page as his competition. evidence were the bad strategies last year & it is only getting worse this year. all the best for future races.

Good teams are not evident in good times but only in bad times. Therefore, this is the time for the team to demonstrate to the whole world that they are the best team out there. This is a call to action for calm and cool heads. We don't have the best machinery out there - yet. So let's go for points guys. Points. Let's not expect miracles. All I know is that the harder you work, the more lucky you become. Let's go for it!

Hello everyone! cant say how annoyed i am at todays debacle who hasnt been shouting at their tv screen or monitor?! ferrari have made the most of kimis considerable talents over the winter, he's worked hard, had great media exposure for what have been stunning arctic rally drives, arrived in melbourne fit, highly motivated and yet we have finished the second weekends racing with no points!.. He needs to be maximised as a resource! If this was the teams pre-arranged reaction to rain at this stage of kimis race the question remains why after a couple of laps didnt they bring him in, change to the'intermediate' tyre and send him back out? it wasnt rocket science if those of us watching on tv could work out that the amount of time he was losing per lap on the wrong tyres would never be regained! a collective paralysis seems to be descending please dont go back to the pre-schumi days ps i love ferrari supported schumi for years, and am really excited about kimi driving for them now.. they need a star!

Kimi, we feel your pain at Sepang. You were doing well till they put wrong tyres on your car. You're such a cool guy, with your smile & ice cream on hand, we are going to forget your misfortune at Sepang. Bring on Shanghai. We are behind you all the way. As the Chinese say, KIMI JIAYOU!!!
  • Monday, 6 Apr 2009 01:36 by john
Kimi Good luck with the car and sorting out its balance, onboard shoots show it still not balanced right, front end grip a bit loose and the rear end all over the place, maybe the rear diffuser issue will help when it made, if allowed, but the pit wall must also improve on stategy, since Ross Brawn left decisions have been very bad, and extreme wets on a dry track, who made that call should go... Kimi good luck with the rest of the season, it can only get better for the team and lets hope the real ferrari team turn up in china..

I have to say that Ferrari's strategy in Malaysia made serious mistakes, I am very sad. But hope everything will be improved in Shanghai, so come on Kimi! At us with you!

Dear Mr Kimi and team principle, Sad to say that everyone who has written on this blog has only seen your picture or seen you at a distance. I stood next to you at Sepang at the Paddock club when you came for the driver interview. I was standing outside with lots of more unlucky fans of yours. You refused to sign any autographs or mementos for anyone outside the room, you showed absolute rudeness to the none FERRARI owning fans outside. This is not being humble. If you are humble you can reach great heights. Remember, you have won just one championship and that too only by a whisker, so that does not make you invincible or indespensible. There are more fans outside the room and in the grandstands and open stands around the circuit than in that confined space. I say this with lot of sadness... You and Ferrari are world famous. You have fans all over the world. Wake up FERRARI. Percy from Sri Lanka
