Gianmaria Bruni was born in Rome on 30 May 1981. He began karting at the age of 18 and his first encounter with a race car came in 1997 when he took part in the Formula Renault Campus Italia, winning the title in 1998. The following year he won the European Formula Renault series and in 2000, he competed in the British Formula 3 series, continuing for two more years. In 2003, he was the runner up in the Euro 3000 Series, then in 2004 came the move to Formula 1, racing for Minardi for a season. In 2005 and 2006 he switched to GP2 while the following year saw him tackle the FIA GT2 championship with AF Corse and the American Le Mans Series with Risi Competizione. In 2008, he dominated the FIA GT2 championship along with Toni Vilander, winning two of the three races in the Le Mans Series, teamed with Robert Bell. He won the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours again teamed up with Mika Salo. In 2009, he came second in the Le Mans Series and the FIA GT championship and in 2010 he won the American Le Mans Series and did it again in 2011 alongside Giancarlo Fisichella, as well as taking victory in the 2011 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup. For 2012, Bruni continues to race in the GT series in the Ferrari 458 Italia GT, as well as being available for all sporting and commercial activities linked to Prancing Horse owners.
