Shell first began collaborating with Enzo Ferrari in 1929, when he used to race Alfa Romeos within the original Scuderia Ferrari, by supplying fuel and lubricants to the team. From this foundation, Shell was the obvious choice when Ferrari established the legendary road cars manufacturing company Ferrari S.p.A in 1947. When the very first Ferrari drove out of the factory gates in Maranello, Italy, it was indeed already powered and protected by Shell.
As Ferrari's technical partner, Shell develops and supplies fuel and oils to the most successful Formula 1 team in history. It is a relationship that helps Ferrari stay at the front of the grid, and Shell customers to enjoy a fuel and motor oil developed for the pinnacle of motorsport. Very important for Ferrari’s Formula One operations is the Shell Trackside Laboratory, located within the Ferrari compound and present at every Formula One race of the season. This is where the Shell trackside scientists provide Scuderia Ferrari with a full analysis of fuel and oil samples at every race, using cutting-edge technology. Shell conducts around 60 tests per weekend on the Shell V-Power and Shell Helix race products used inside the Ferrari 150° Italia, to ensure that the cars are as optimised as possible at all times.
The Shell technical partnership with Ferrari has been fruitful for both parties – Scuderia Ferrari has achieved 12 Formula One Drivers’ Titles and 10 Constructors’ Titles during the Technical partnership with Shell. Over the past 60 years, Shell has used the partnership with Ferrari as a test bed for new technologies and has transferred them continuously from track to road. The learnings made together with Ferrari on the track are indeed transferred directly to the products available to customers, such as Shell V-Power fuel and Shell Helix lubricants.
However, Shell’s role as Ferrari’s exclusive technical partner for fuels and lubricants extends beyond Formula 1. Within the epicenter of Ferrari’s road car production, Shell specialists are able to work alongside Ferrari production engineers. Shell has been involved in the development of the latest Ferrari V8 engines. Every Ferrari that leaves the production line, from the 458 Italia to the more recent Ferrari Four, is furthermore fuelled by Shell V-Power and lubricated by Shell Helix.
The technical partners have continued to excel in many famous motor-racing events, from the tight turns of the Monaco Grand Prix to the endurance and darkness of the Le Mans 24-hour race. The Ferrari Challenge being part of one of these racing experiences. This unique Shell’s experience and knowledge gives Ferrari a crucial edge on the track.
Shell and Ferrari remain true to their roots. Partners committed to excellence.
