FDA – Mugello: an uphill struggle for Marciello and Maisano
Mugello, 9 October – The sixth and penultimate round of the Italian Formula ACI-CSAI Abarth championship is taking place at the Mugello circuit this weekend and, in the first race the result for the Ferrari Driver Academy drivers did not live up to expectations, with Raffaele Marciello and Brandon Maisano finishing seventh and tenth respectively. The race was won by poleman Hannes Van Asseldonk (Prema Junior) who led from start to finish. Second and third places went to Jenzer Motor team-mates, Maxim Zimin and Patrick Niederhauser.
Raffaele Marciello (J.D. Motorsport) started from fourth but did not make the best of getaways, immediately losing four places, but in the end he managed to finish seventh, thanks to a good passing move on ARM Competition driver, Stefano Colombo. Series leader Brandon Maisano had technical problems on his BVM team car, dropping from ninth to tenth on the final lap when he was passed by Eddie Cheever (Jenzer Motor.)
The Ferrari Driver Academy boys will be back in action on Sunday at 10.10 for the second and final race at the Tuscan track. Maisano will start from tenth, as he fails to get any benefit from the fact that the top eight qualifiers are reversed on the grid, while Marciello starts from fifth and will be looking for any opportunity to get onto the podium.
