Video chat with Fernando Alonso
7.12.2010
Maranello, 12 July – Fernando Alonso, who had already taken part in a virtual chat with his fans back in January, joined in a video chat again this afternoon, to answer a lot of questions from fans on the Ferrari.com site. The driver from Asturias, back from a difficult weekend in Silverstone replied to a variety of questions about the disappointing race result. Aldo was one of many who wanted to know what it was like to have a car that was up to the job, but because of bad luck or other reasons, was incapable of getting a good result. “Naturally, it’s frustrating,” replied Fernando. “But it is precisely at times like these that you have to be stronger and united, looking to the future without losing motivation. We have to know how to make the most of the slightest opportunity and be ready to pick up every single point.” The driver’s state of mind after such a disappointment and his ability to react was a theme touched on by Claudio Sorgeza, who was keen to know what sort of mood Alonso was in. “Races like this one at Silverstone just increase my will to race,” he commented. “I really want to get to the next round as quickly as possible, while using this energy in a positive and constructive way.” Fernando also spoke about the special relationship with his race engineer, Andrea Stella, which is crucial at stressful times. “Andrea knows how to keep me calm so I don’t lose my cool.” Franco Sacchi was interested in his serious nature and character. “I tackle everything I do with the maximum level of professionalism,” replied the Spaniard. “I work now the same way I did when I started karting; I always try and do my best, never giving up, always looking ahead in every choice I make. What happens on the track is just an extension of life itself, which I tackle with the same optimism and determination.” On a more general note, Everrouge and Maranello Lover wanted to know how he summed up the first half of the season. “It is all completely positive, especially in terms of my integration with the team with whom I feel in complete harmony. In Ferrari, there is a great passion and everything down to the smallest detail is done with the aim of creating a united force from all the team members so that they feel part of a family all aiming for the same target such as going for victory.” Swizy was one of many who wanted to share with Fernando, the delight at Spain winning the World Cup in South Africa. “On Sunday, I watched the match in our motorhome along with around thirty of my fellow countrymen. It was great, especially as Iniesta is my favourite player.” Apart from soccer, some fans taking part in the video chat, including Janez 75, wanted to know what Fernando would do during the holidays, which amused the driver. “That’s a good question! I will definitely go on holiday at the end of the season. It will probably be in December, when I will go and look for somewhere hot, because that suits my wife as she loves the sea.”
